Here's a somewhat up-to-date list of the EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) gear I use.  I use the old Akai EWI 1000 model wind controllers (made around 1987).  All with aftermarket breath transducers and mouthpieces made my the EWI's inventor Nyle Steiner (the mouthpiece doesn't make the sound different, it's just better quality and functions better than the original mouthpiece that's factory-installed).  My "holographically painted" orange/red/gold-ish looking EWI was painted by Calibre Inc. (Grafton, WI) many years ago.

My second EWI 1000 I bought in Boston in '97 or '98, while @ Berklee College of Music.  I added some 'black pearloid' pickguard material on the sides and front, and included a contrasting white pearloid cross on the front.  Since the finish on an EWI doesn't effect the sound, I wanted to kick up the visual a bit!

For the EWI's sounds, I currently only use the Akai EWV 2000 Module (mainly using the sounds "Mike" and "Judd"), going through (as with all saxes) a Rane SM-82 Mixer, Lexicon MPX-100 for reverb, and for my monitor I run an Alesis Quadraverb through a Carvin HT-150 power amplifier, to a BagEnd TA-1200 12" speaker.  That Bag End can easily handle the 8+ octaves the EWI provides!!! (I can go up or down 2 additional octaves if I'm using my Digitech Whammy II pedal, which would allow the EWI to go beyond the range of human hearing, to 12 octaves!  Our ears can only hear 10 octaves! don't worry, not planning on playing that high!).  I also use a Racklight "Powerlight" power conditioner and King Kase Co. Road Cases & Racks

Click HERE for a brief clip of me playing moving chords with the EWI 1000 via the Akai EWV-2000 module's chord feature, using sounds from the EWV-2000 and a Proteus 2000 module.
